What is Performance mode?
Performance mode, available since version 2.1.7, is a setting intended to limit the reprocessing of product lists supplied by another search module. Enabling it does not guarantee shorter loading times on your store.
In the module configuration, open the Performance tab and locate Performance Mode. This setting is disabled by default.
Check how the list is supplied
The case described here concerns a third-party module supplying the product list through the productSearchProvider hook, such as Faceted Search. The search providers used by Advanced Search and Advanced Search Pro are excluded from this mode.
Before enabling this mode on your shop, compare the result count, displayed combinations, sorting and pagination on a test copy.
Compare both settings on a test copy
- Record the versions of PrestaShop, the module, the theme and the module supplying the list. Also record the initial Performance mode setting and the option for displaying products from subcategories.
- Choose a category with several pages and products containing several combinations eligible for splitting. Keep the products, filters, sort order and products-per-page limit unchanged throughout the comparison.
- With the mode disabled, open pages 1 and 2. Record the displayed total count, the visible products and combinations, and their order. Also check the preselected attributes after clicking through to a product page.
- Enable the mode, save, and reload its configuration to check that the setting was retained. Repeat exactly the same steps, then compare your records. Look for expected combinations that are missing, repeated entries, count differences and changes in order.
- Repeat the comparison with filters and sort orders relevant to your store. If you measure loading times, repeat the measurements under the same cache and browsing conditions; a single measurement is not enough to draw a conclusion.
- Restore the initial setting on the test copy, save, and check that it was retained. Base any decision to enable the mode on your store on the results you recorded.
If the results are unsuitable, leave the mode disabled. To request an investigation from support, provide the versions, settings, reproduction steps and differences you found.
