Which modules should I block?

You must request consent for modules that set or read cookies or other trackers requiring the visitor's permission. Not every module that uses cookies needs to be blocked: some trackers are exempt from consent, particularly when they are strictly necessary to provide a service requested by the visitor.

Which modules should I select?

Modules to review first include, for example:

Conversely, do not block a module simply because it uses cookies needed for authentication or to remember the shopping cart. Your decision should be based on the trackers actually used and their purposes, rather than the module's name alone. If in doubt, consult the module developer's documentation.

How do I categorize modules in Advanced Cookie Banner?

  1. Open the module configuration, then the Blocked modules list tab.
  2. Drag each module requiring consent from the left-hand column into the category matching its purpose: Statistics or Marketing and social networks.
  3. Check that the modules left in the left-hand column can operate without consent: they will not be blocked by this categorization.

The categories determine which modules are allowed according to the visitor's choices. For example, if a visitor accepts statistics but declines marketing, modules in the marketing category remain blocked.

If a single module serves several purposes, ask its developer how to configure it before categorizing it: assigning a module to a category does not automatically separate its different functions.

How can I offer a choice for each module?

In the Settings tab, enable the customization panel. The Customize link in the banner then lets visitors individually select which of the categorized modules they authorize. You can also enter explanatory text for the panel in each language used by your shop.

After configuration, test the different choices on your shop to check that the relevant modules are allowed or blocked as expected.

Please note: scripts added directly to your theme templates are not blocked by module categorization. See also our FAQ about cookies blocked by the module.

To determine which trackers require consent, consult the CNIL guidelines and the conditions for an audience measurement exemption (in French).
