How are stocks managed when ordering a pack?

Pack stock is calculated from the stock of its products and combinations. Manage their stock on the product pages, without setting aside separate physical stock for the pack. Check that stock management is enabled in PrestaShop.

The quantity of each product required to make one pack is included in the calculation. The module works out how many complete packs each component can supply; the lowest result limits availability.

For example, with 100 toothbrushes and 80 tubes of toothpaste, a pack containing two toothbrushes and one tube of toothpaste can be sold at most 50 times, before taking the cart contents into account. Here, the toothbrushes limit the number of packs.

When an order is placed, each component’s stock is reduced by the quantity purchased. In this example, ordering one pack leaves 98 toothbrushes and 79 tubes of toothpaste, enough for 49 packs. Availability also takes account of products and combinations already in the cart.

If a component does not allow out-of-stock orders, the pack cannot be purchased when the required quantity of that component is unavailable. Check each product’s out-of-stock ordering policy: an out-of-stock product does not automatically block every pack.

If only the default combination is unavailable, “Set higher priority to combination in stock” allows another available combination offered in the pack to be selected.

For the products saved in the order, see the pack order FAQ.

This allows you to have a correct inventory management and not to find yourself selling packs without being able to fill orders due to product lack of stock. Or conversely, it allows you not to find yourself with out of stock packs while you still have stock on the products sold separately and you could very well build up new packs.
